Learning Hub

Bankrate’s latest user-focused initiative. This dynamic platform offers a comprehensive suite of financial resources, including videos, articles, quizzes, and calculators. With a strong emphasis on accessibility and personalization, this platform empowers individuals on their financial journey like never before.

Problem

The learning segment within the Know User product was experiencing significant growth. We were actively developing new courses catering to a wide range of user expertise levels, from beginners to experts, offering diverse formats such as videos, articles, quizzes, and financial tools. However, our progress was hindered by the limitations of the existing system. While it offered some degree of customization, its features were notably constrained, posing a challenge to our efforts to deliver a more dynamic and tailored learning experience.

Objective

The primary objective of the project was to create a custom-built financial learning hub that would address the customization and feature limitations hindering our growth. Additionally, the project aimed to consolidate various learning resources and accommodate different flows based on the category or type of course. By developing this tailored platform, we sought to overcome existing constraints and provide users with a seamless and diverse learning experience, ultimately fostering our growth in the financial education sector.

Co-creation

Given the scale of this project, our approach involved initiating a co-creation process to engage all team members. Before commencing co-creation, I collaborated with the UX and the business team to analyze the current user flow and data, identifying key problems and goals. Subsequently, we convened a co-creation session where all team members contributed ideas, which were then filtered to formulate a new user journey.

Wireframe

After defining the new user journey, we proceeded to develop wireframes and prototypes to ensure the thorough incorporation of features and seamless functionality. Additionally, we conducted user testing to gather feedback on the prototypes. Subsequently, we carefully reviewed the insights provided by the UX team in their report and made necessary adjustments to refine the user experience further. This iterative process ensured that the final product met user expectations and provided an intuitive and effective learning platform.

Design

After carefully considering user feedback, I transitioned to crafting the actual design, leveraging the existing design system while collaborating closely with the design system team to introduce new styles and rules as needed. The design process involved creating detailed mockups that were shared with the team for feedback and refinement. Once the final design was approved, it was documented and handed off to the developers with clear guidelines to ensure seamless implementation. This collaborative approach facilitated consistency and efficiency throughout the design and development phases, resulting in a polished end product aligned with user needs and design standards.

Animation Guidelines

A pivotal aspect of this project was the integration of UI animations, aligning with Bankrate’s brand vision. This marked the inaugural inclusion of animations and transitions within our product suite, necessitating the establishment of proper guidelines. I played a central role in both crafting these animation guidelines and facilitating their implementation during handoff to ensure a cohesive and engaging user experience.

Conclusion

Learning Hub project has exceeded the expectations, resulting in a resounding success. Every aspect of the project unfolded smoothly, leading to a product that has garnered positive feedback. The user flow has been praised for its intuitive design, ensuring seamless navigation and accessibility to all content types. Our precise categorization has made finding information effortless for users, enhancing their overall experience.

Moreover, the increased interaction from our current user base signifies the platform’s effectiveness in engaging and meeting their needs. As we celebrate this achievement, we remain committed to further refining and expanding the Learning Hub to continue delivering exceptional value to our users.
